The 22 mile bike path (yellow dotted line) runs along the entire Santa Monica Bay from Pacific Palisades to Palos Verdes. Hundereds, maybe thousands of bike enthusiasts pedal along the coast every weekend - out to enjoy the breeze and get some excercise with friends and family. Yet along the entire path there is no shade, no place to rest and recharge. Along every major freeway we find rest stops, where people stretch their legs, admire the vistas or takea nap...... El Segundo sits in the middle of the bay, about equidistant to each end of the bike path, the perfect spot for a bit of rest along the bike path. The structure will provide shelter from the sun, a place to rest on benches or in hammocks, while taking in the sounds and sights of the beach and the pacific beyond. A self service bike shop, with basic bike tools and air, and solar panels powering a charging station, will fix minor issues. Besides providing a rest stop for cyclists, an El Segundo outpost along the coast, builds a mental bridge between the town of El Segundo and the beach.
